In Scotland, Emergency Liaison Groups (ELGs) bring together key organisations responsible for preparing for and responding to emergencies at a local level.

These multi-agency partnerships typically include the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, Police Scotland, NHS services, local authorities, and other supporting agencies.

ELGs work collaboratively to support communities across the Highlands, helping them prepare for, respond to, and recover from emergencies and major incidents. By coordinating efforts across different organisations, they aim to ensure an effective and joined-up approach when it matters most.

As part of this role, Emergency Liaison Groups:

  • Assess the range of risks and hazards that could affect their area
  • Develop and maintain plans to deal with different types of emergencies
  • Carry out training and exercises to test these plans
  • Ensure staff across organisations are informed and prepared
  • Provide guidance and information to the public, businesses, and community groups

Through this coordinated approach, ELGs help strengthen local resilience and support communities before, during, and after emergencies.
